Egypt and Kenya
Pilgrimage to Egypt
A Pilgrimage to Egypt offers a unique encounter with one of the world’s most ancient civilisations. Egypt holds a special place in Biblical history as the place where Moses led his people first to Sinai, and then to the Promised Land. It is also the place where the infant Christ escaped the terror of Herod. From the earliest centuries, Egyptian Christians bore witness to the faith through ascetic struggle, martyrdom, and prayer, leaving an inheritance that continues to shape Orthodox life today.
Our pilgrimages explore Egypt’s most significant Christian sites alongside its renowned historical landmarks. We visit ancient Churches and monasteries, particularly in and around Cairo and Alexandria, where some of the oldest continuously functioning Christian churches in the world are found. Alongside these sacred sites, pilgrims also encounter Egypt’s wider historical heritage, including the monuments of ancient civilisation that form the backdrop against which early Christianity emerged. Experiencing both the Christian and broader historical context allows pilgrims to better understand how the faith took root and endured within a land shaped by millennia of history.
A central focus of pilgrimage in Egypt is Mount Sinai, one of the most sacred locations of the Bible. At the foot of the mountain stands the ancient Monastery of St. Catherine, a living centre of prayer founded in the sixth century and renowned for its unbroken monastic life, sacred manuscripts, and icons. A pilgrimage to Sinai is an encounter with the mystery of divine revelation, recalling Moses before the burning bush and the giving of the Law, while also witnessing the Christian monastic witness that has endured there for over fifteen centuries.

Pilgrimage to Kenya
A Pilgrimage to Kenya combines prayer, service, and encounter, offering pilgrims the opportunity to live out the Christian calling to love and charity alongside the life of the Church. These pilgrimages are shaped not only around visiting places, but around active engagement with local communities through charitable and missionary work. Participants have the opportunity to support and assist Christian charitable initiatives, including orphanages, schools, and community aid projects, allowing pilgrims to place faith into action in a tangible and meaningful way.
In and around Nairobi, as well as in rural areas, pilgrims gain insight into the pastoral and missionary life of the Church in East Africa and learn how Orthodox Christianity has taken root and grown through education, charity, and communal life. These encounters foster mutual encouragement and a deeper understanding of the Church as one body united across cultures.
Alongside charitable and ecclesial engagement, pilgrims may also choose to experience Kenya’s remarkable natural heritage, including an optional visit to the Maasai Mara. This experience offers time for rest, reflection, and wonder at God’s creation, set within one of the world’s most renowned wildlife regions. The combination of prayer, service, fellowship, and encounter with creation makes a pilgrimage to Kenya a holistic experience, one that unites mission work, Christian life, and thoughtful exploration in a way that is both spiritually enriching and deeply memorable.
