The British Isles
British Isles Pilgrimage
Many are unaware of the rich history that exists in the British Isles. According to tradition, both the Apostle Aristobulus and Joseph of Aramathea went to Roman England in the 1st Century. Going on a pilgrimage in the British Isles offers a unique encounter with the earliest centuries of Christianity in the Western world, when the faith took root by Apostolic preaching, monastic life, missionary labour, and martyrdom. From Roman Britain through the early medieval period, the British Isles produced saints, scholars, and missionaries whose influence extended far beyond their shores, helping to preserve and transmit the Christian faith throughout Europe. We can lead tours in the United Kingdom, Ireland, and the Isle of Man.
Our pilgrimages visit many of the most significant historic Christian sites, including, but not limited to, Canterbury, associated with St Augustine and the conversion of the Anglo-Saxons; Lindisfarne, the cradle of Northumbrian Christianity and the mission of St Aidan and St Cuthbert; Iona, from which St Columba and his companions evangelised much of Scotland and northern England, Down Cathedral, where Saint Patrick is buried, and Glendalough founded by Saint Kevin. We also explore ancient monastic centres, early cathedrals, and places of prayer that still bear witness to the faith lived in these lands over a millennium ago.
A Pilgrimage in the British Isles allows participants to encounter Christianity in a quieter, more contemplative landscape, where faith was forged through prayer, endurance, and missionary zeal. These journeys emphasise the continuity between the early saints of Britain and Ireland and the wider life of the Church. By visiting these sacred places with historical and spiritual guidance, pilgrims gain a deeper appreciation of how Christianity was lived, defended, and handed down in these isles.
Each of our pilgrimage packages is custom-tailored to fit your group's needs. If you are interested in organising a pilgrimage in the United Kingdom, Ireland, or the Isle of Man, please contact us to discuss details.
